Frequently Asked Questions
Please look below at some enquiries that many clients have requested before. Any more questions please contact via the Booking and Contact Tab.
Dress up Requirements
Dress up requirements are optional for particular events. Most events I dress up for are Birthday Parties or Religious/Cultural Celebrations. Other than dressing up in a specific way, black clothing is always worn - I wear a floral apron and a pink and white polka dot head piece. If you would like a dress up requirement please do not hesitate to ask! Dress up requirements must be advised in advanced before the event date. The latest is ONE WEEK prior to event.
Arrival time prior to event
Arrival time prior to any event is between 15 - 20Â mins. This is required for set up time and preparing all face painting/glitter equipment, ensuring the area to be used is in good condition and safe.
What brands of Face Paint do you use?
We only use high quality FDA approved, non-toxic, water based and hypo-allergenic paints on the face or body. Face and body paint is easy to remove and wash off, it is gentle on the skin and is generally unlikely to cause any irritation. Although skin reactions happen on a rare basis, we encourage completing a patch test on the arm before having the child get face paint. Please see below under "What if my child has sensitive skin? Will they have an allergic reaction?" for more information regarding skin conditions.

Brands used for face and body painting are: TAG - GLOBAL COLOURS - FUSION BODY ART - KRYVALINE - DIAMOND FX - WOLFE FX - CHAMELEON - MONTE MARTE - FACE PAINTS AUSTRALIA - MEHRON (for special FX). All paints are created to ensure product safety on skin contact. Glitter creme and loose glitters are also used as part of face painting. Only cosmetic grade glitters are used on the face and body. Cosmetic glitter brands used is by Essence cosmetics, Monte Marte, Art Factory glitter cremes, TAG Body Art Glitter. No glitters used contain any glass or sharp surfaces, they are specifically formatted for cosmetic use. Glitter is not used on or too close to the eyes.
How many children can you paint?
Depending on the type of event I will be face painting at, numbers are subject to change. When 1-2 hours is requested for face painting, numbers are usually up to 20 kids, between 2-3 hours there can be between 20-30 kids, and the more hours I stay I may be able to paint up to 50-60 children. This is only a rough estimate, numbers can change depending on different circumstances.
How do you remove face paint?
Removing face paint requires some water and a generous amount of soap lathered together on a dampened cloth or hands, gently removing in circular motions on top of the painted area. This will loosen the paint and glitter on the face or body. Do this for approximately a minute or two to ensure the product has been loosened from the skin. Rinse off the excess soap with luke warm water or remove with a wet cloth. Do not use excessive force in removing the paint as it can damage the skin and cause irritations. Face paint can be stained slightly on the skin, if there is still residue from the face paint on the skin, repeat the previous step again or you can apply some baby oil or moisturising creme - preferably sorbolene on the skin, the adults can use an oil based make up remover - Garnier Miceller oil infused make up remover is recommended - or any other brand with oil based formulations.
What if my child has sensitive skin? Will they have an allergic reaction?
Children with particular skin conditions can be painted only under the discretion of both the face painter and the parent. However, children OR adults with the following skin conditions CAN NOT be painted on the face:
- Open wounds
- Cold sores
- Children with a recent cold
- Chicken pox
- Ring worm
- Fungal Infections
- Severe Eczema
- Conjunctivitis

Children who have sensitive skin can be provided with a patch test on their arm 1/2 an hour before painted on their face.
If the child does have sensitive skin towards face paint, we are happy to paint their arm if the patch test does not cause any reaction.
As a face painter, I am able to refuse painting for any customer that shows clear signs of skin conditions or infections, that does not wish to be painted and can not be settled in the tall chair. Children are welcome to sit on their parents lap if the child does not feel comfortable to sit in the face painting chair. Cross contamination is avoided and prevented as much as possible to prevent bacteria on the paint, brushes and other equipment.
What Hygiene Practices do you follow?
All paints, brushes, tools and equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before any event. In my face painting kit I have a set of antibacterial wipes for surface area, hand sanitiser used in between faces to keep hands clean and bacteria free as much as possible. A spritzer bottle of Isocol antiseptic solution is used on top on paints and brushes on a regular cycle during events to ensure products and tools are clean when in use.
Does Face Paint stain on clothes?
As a face painter, I am not responsible for any damage caused on any clothes or property that has face paint on it. Face paints are activated by water, so when it is dry it will return solid or matte, when reactivated with water it will become loose. Face Paint does not completely stain on clothes, unless you have left it to dry and unwashed for too long. If face paint has accidentally gotten on clothes, apply an amount of washing powder with water and mix into a gluey like paste, rub or scrub the paste on the area where it's stained. Leave it to absorb and soak for one or two minutes. After this, rinse thoroughly with warm water to ensure the product has come off easily. Do not use cold water straight away on stains, the paint may solidify and be more difficult to remove off clothing.
How soon should I book?
I recommend booking face painting with your event at least 3-4 weeks prior the date. This ensures you are not disappointed when the date hasn't already been filled. This is also important for any special requests the host requests for the event. For example; dress up specifications, travel arrangements, set up preparations and more.
